On short notice, I found myself at the Spirit of Suwanee music park for the Wanee Fest, featuring some unbelievable music and a perfect chance to catch up with an old friend.

They had a DISC GOLF course at the park (among other things) that John and I and his fiance Tracy took the opportunity to play. We both scored well, considering we’d never played this very narrow, challenging course before. I also got bit on the ankle by something with fangs, but I survived and am doing okay. Thanks for asking.

If you’re unfamiliar with disc golf, don’t be surprised… it’s a hippie sport that most people haven’t heard of. It entails throwing specialized frisbees into chains. It scores just like golf, you play it where it lies, and copious amounts of inebriants are often involved, in our case, historically.

Southern Culture on the Skids at Skipper’s

My first SCOTS show…. amazing! Skipper’s Smokehouse is an intimate little venue with a few bars, heated chiki-huts, and barnyard style seating for smallish shows, though I’m sure the place can pack up pretty well. Southern Culture on the Skids is an amazing band, and we got to chat briefly with them after the show. I LOVE small venues for reasons like this. The Demolition String Band was the opener, and they rocked pretty good, too!

Homemade Rock And Roll

A friend visited this past weekend, and the following rock ensued.

People You Don’t Meet Every Day

I just got off the phone with a woman I work with. She’s in a fairly remote location and I don’t see her that often, and as such our relationship is fairly shallow and no further than a mild acquaintance. During this routine business phonecall, I hear she’s just gotten back from vacation. Oh really, somewhere special? Guatemala. Oh really, for family or vacation? I worked in an orphanage for a week.

Now, I don’t know if this, for her, was part of a church group activity, or whether it was of her own volition and initiative. Either way, life throws a Saint at me, and in this case, I’ve known her for quite some time with zero inkling that she was of the heart, soul, and social philanthropy to go to a Third World country to take care of homeless children.

I’m impressed.

Lawnboy

I met a dude on Youtube, who lives close enough for me to drive to his house and pull off ridiculous antics like this.

Mike And Chris In New Orleans 1999

So Mike and Chris are talking again – as is Chris and Jim. All sorts of good old friends coming out of the woodwork lately.

Mike and I were in New Orleans on 9/26/99 for this photo at Cafe DuMonde. We were there for a Phish show, which we saw at the University of New Orleans Lakefront Arena. The show was somewhat uncomfortable because we were on the floor in front of the stage. In and of itself, this is a fantastic thing, obviously. The floor though, was solid concrete, and not at all like the lawns I’d become accustomed to seeing shows on. Good times – solid memories. Follow the ‘more’ link for the setlist and details. I’m priviledged to have gotten a torrent from Mike of this show, and I’m jammin’ to a wicked DWD right now. Thanks Chester!

Springtime All Abloom

The tree in front of our house blooms like this. No leaves, just flowers. It’s beautiful.

In unrelated news, I’ve heard back from one of my oldest friends, Mike. We haven’t spoken in probably 7 years, I’m guessing. Out of the blue i get an email from him, and we’re planning on having the inevitable marathon chat soon. Seems like all sorts of things are abloom.

Best Wishes

I got a card from my boss today. It made me feel really nice. I replaced his name with black and white bell peppers, just for fun. Compared to where I used to work, getting something like this is just further evidence that it’s indeed very possible to find a great boss. I sure am lucky.

Part of a Small Something

Last night Sean, and old friend of mine, and as such the story of how Sean and I are friends being too long to share here and now, got together and played some music together. Sean’s a bassist and has a long, storied existence as a musician. Compared to him, I’m a mere greenie, wet behind the ears when holding an instrument… especially around other musicians. (more…)
